More of a character rant board than anything, really.

i think dirk & john is really good.. i think theyre good in like any sense of romantic or platonic. i dont have any coherent thoughts thouhg lmao
i also think that sollx and june would be a really funny combo. I DONT HAVE A LOT OF COHERENT THOUGHTS BUT.
harkening back to thr threads original purpose i get soooo so upset when people like. fuck up jake. jake's really important to me and so often i see him flattened out into a charming adventurer or dirks boyfriend and just. ARGH. i like dirkjake in the i think they date for three months and then break up way, but honestly the way some dirkjake shippers treat jake... and dirk too!!! shippers see characters as more than just one thing challenge lmao.
i dunno its just.. jake is such an interesting character to me. he chooses to isolate himself later on because he thinks hes just not good enough to talk to anyone without fucking it up. he has such a flimsy persona of an indiana jones type character which he isnt, at all, as dirk said at some point he stays in his room watching movies all day. and yet the fandom just takes the persona at face value- something they do with rose too, notably.
and hes not a himbo!!! hes not dumb!! hes socially inept, yeah, but theres a reason for that-- isolation through near your entire life will *do* that to a person, but his puzzle modus takes a lot of brainpower to manage (and i dont believe we ever see him have a modus collision) and he was the guy who figured out dirks deal and he'd suspected that jane had a crush on him before she even tried to confess, if i remember right? and in the beta timeline he was able to set up all the transportalisers and jade's dreambot (fuck the skaianet systems lore, honestly, i think thats all just bs hussie made to 'be funny'.) he was able to assemble brobot, too, even if it was with dirks help. he just fumbles through social situations and believes his friends to a point of naivete, which is so aligned with his classpect.
and JANE TOO. god. ggrhrg. im not even going to start on postcanon but the way fanon portrays jane is either cutesy cupcake girl or just. a bitch. which neithr is right. one of the most PROMINENT aspects of her character is an interest in detectives and yet that gets near entirely ignored!!!
i think, with jane, its really interesting to look at her through a classpect perspective-- a maid of life. im utilising other peoples analysis here, but a maid of life is someone whos life is defined by others until they (quite turbulently) take it back for themselves. for so long jane was the heiress of bccorp, which predetermined her life path and interests. it also definitely caused a lot of damage- the tiaratop, for starters, and the assassination attempts that she was *used* to-- a teenager doesnt get out of that without baggage.
despite that, jane is genuinely kind and discerning and tries so hard to be there for her friends, which isnt returned in a6 when its her 16th birthday-- a very significant event, with jane growing up in a culture where the sweet sixteen is a well known like... cultural thing? idk. and she lashes out!!! and thats so deserved!!! and she takes her life back, she stops putting herself in the position where she's just listening to jakes relationship issues and it has consequences but what the hell else would she have done?
just. i dunno. these two are important to me lol. harlenglishcrockerberts are soooo fucked up and i wish more of the fandom saw that. i could probably talk at length about june too, but john-posting will come later, when i am not tired.
AGREED AGREED. Okay something that I think a shit ton of people sleep on is the fact that Jake is VERY SMART. There's posts about this, I've seen them, and I've even put it in my general Page of Hope analysis. He's not stupid, not at all. He's super smart, good point with the fetch modus (most other characters have issues with theirs at least once). He manages to smell out Jane's crush on him, and goads her into a situation where he can safely tell her (at her own expense) that he doesn't like her like that (even if the manner is a bit fucked up). It's smart as hell.
